Clasp

Don’t clasp so tight

You know things don’t last

Like your lover’s morning breath

Kisses on your cheek

With limbs entwined

Or those shards of porcelain

From her favourite coffee mug

Lodged into your heart

Or that song you love so much

It’s only three minutes and forty-seven

Seconds you know?

Or those bouts of laughter

That make you feel like

You’ve just completed

One hundred push ups

And sometimes you need

To let things go

Like when you were young

Holding a helium balloon

And you loosened your grip

Until it floated up to the ceiling

And you had to leave it there
